Nouvelle décoration spéciale pour un F-15E de Lakenheath

La base aérienne de Lakenheath (RAF Lakenheath) a dévoilé une livrée spéciale sur le F-15E 91-0311 pour commémorer le 40e anniversaire de l'opération El Dorado Canyon, menée en 1986.

Le 14 avril 1986, vingt-quatre F-111F Aardvark du 48e escadron de chasse tactique ont décollé de la RAF Lakenheath, au Royaume-Uni, appuyés par cinq EF-111A Raven du 42e escadron de guerre électronique basé à la RAF Upper Heyford. Après un ravitaillement en vol avec des KC-10, ils ont rejoint des objectifs en Libye en réponse aux attaques terroristes liées au régime de Mouammar Kadhafi.

Avec des éléments embarqués de l'US Navy, la force combinée a frappé cinq objectifs en Libye. L'US Air Force a ciblé un camp d'entraînement terroriste, des installations de commandement et de contrôle, ainsi qu'un aérodrome près de Tripoli, tandis que l'US Navy a frappé un autre camp d'entraînement et un aérodrome près de Benghazi.

RAF Lakenheath has unveiled a special paint scheme on F-15E 91-0311 to mark the 40th anniversary of Operation EL DORADO CANYON back in 1986.
On April 14, 1986, twenty-four F-111F Aardvark aircraft from the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing took off from RAF Lakenheath, UK, supported by five EF-111A Ravens from the 42nd Electronic Combat Squadron based at RAF Upper Heyford. After a rendezvous with waiting KC-10 tankers, they made their way to attack targets in Libya in response to terrorist attacks linked to Muamar Gadaffi's Libyan regime.
Together with carrierborne elements from the US Navy, the combined force struck five targets across Libya. The Air Force hit a terrorist training camp, command and control facilities, and an airfield near Tripoli, while the Navy struck another training camp and an airfield near Benghazi.
